Well, the new television show Hidden Palms has been on the air for a while now, and you may or may not be the demographic for the program (Toto, we aren’t in Dawson’s Creek anymore!). Initially, it was touted as doing for Palm Springs what the OC had done for… uh, uh, where was that place anyway? (You can see I was a big fan.)

Being in the human resources field you might think it natural for me to read books on the classification of work describing different types of jobs and the tasks that are usually undertaken by incumbents in that particular employment category. On the other hand to read that kind of job analysis book to my young children for fun and entertainment, you must think, “That guy is even odder than I thought he was…” Well, I do admit to it (both to some measure of oddness and to reading “that” kind of book to my kids), but not without an explanation…

For you out-of-towners I want to note that the Desert has some of the best recreational bicycle trails you can find anywhere, I guess that goes along with all the sunshine (eat your heart out Chicago). So, plan to bring your bike along when you visit the Desert, or check with your hotel concierge for rentals once you arrive.

Employers sometimes use “desired” salary as a resume or application sorting tool. Candidates with high (or too high) salary expectations go into one pile, and the candidates that look like they would be satisfied in the salary range go into another (also, candidates that indicate salary is negotiable will usually go into this preferred group).
