Have you noticed the latest workplace phenomenon, the growing numbers of people who are attaching quotations to all sorts of communications, including e-mail signature blocks, and even offering a quotation in their voice mail greetings. Part of this has to be jumping on the band wagon, because it is the IN thing to do. But, I think it also reflects a strong need of individuals to establish their own personal brand. And, this growing practice may partially addresses an individual’s concern of only be known as an anonymous, faceless employee of the organization.
Then again, I could be over analyzing the situation, and people are only doing it because it is fun. That is the reason I would do it, but I can’t quite make up my mind as to which quote to go with. Maybe you could help me out with the selection of one from the list of ten below:
- Big jobs usually go to the men who prove their ability to outgrow small ones. Ralph Waldo Emerson
- The person who knows HOW will always have a job. The person who knows WHY will always be his boss. Diane Ravitch
- There's no scarcity of opportunity to make a living at what you love. There is only a scarcity of resolve to make it happen. Wayne Dyer
- Making a success of the job at hand is the best step toward the kind you want. Bernard M. Baruch
- Pleasure in the job puts perfection in the work. Aristotle
- A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty. Winston Churchill
- Never tell people how to do things. Tell them what to do and they will surprise you with their ingenuity. George S. Patton
- Strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value. Albert Einstein
- Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future. John F. Kennedy
- We, the unwilling, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have done so much, for so long, with so little, we are now qualified to do anything with nothing. Mother Teresa
Thank you in advance for any suggestions. Have fun coming up with you own quote; the one that puts just the right spin on your personal brand.
