I work some 75 miles distant from most of my HR colleagues, but last week I was in Riverside for my Team’s staff meeting. The HR Team manager was going over the protocol for conducting recruitments. During a break in the presentation, when the manager had left the room, I was asked what I thought of the approach being presented. The first thing that came to mind was to tell my teammates how lucky they were to be given the opportunity to work in this type of environment.
The Team Manager was emphasizing a collaborative approach where we add value to the process and take responsibility for the outcome. The common organizational view of an old “Personnel Department” was as simply telling a line manager what they could not do. Whereas, today Human Resources Departments and professionals have taken on the role of working with managers to devise effective solutions to organizational issues. HR professionals are now involved in business strategic planning and working towards results that are clearly aligned with the mission and strategic goal of the department with which they are partnering.
It is really great working in this sort of organizational culture, and for a manager (and management group) that really get IT.
THANK YOU JASMIN - HAPPY BOSS’ DAY!
