Palm Springs and Desert Resort Communities

The following are our top pick of web sites for the newcomer, frequent visitor, and even long-term resident, to explore unique, unusual, and distinctive experiences in the Desert.

1. PS Desert Resorts – CVA (City Map) Interactive map of the area from Palm Springs to Indio; find roadways, businesses, and get oriented in the Valley.

2. Tahquitz Indian Canyon   “This is a place of contrasts; it is a place of ancient and new, a place of power.  Come with the right purpose and a clear mind to enjoy its beauty and mystery.”  Discover a unique hiking experience, and the legend of Tahquitz.  (Most people don’t know that the Tahquitz Falls with pond below was used as the waterfall location for the 1930’s film “Lost Horizon.”)

4. Palm Springs Aerial Tramway  Ascend two and one-half miles to a pristine wilderness aboard the World’s Largest Rotating Tramcars; enjoy snow in the winter and cool breezes in the summer; dine at the top of the tram.

6. McCallum Theater, Palm Desert  The McCallum Theatre is a vital part of community life in the Coachella Valley. The Theatre brings in an astonishing variety of entertainment and cultural experiences, including world-class performances by artists as varied as Tony Bennett, Sheryl Crow, Carol Channing, the St. Petersburg State Ice Ballet and the New York City Opera Company; Nationally televised programs starring artists such as Ray Charles and Oprah Winfrey and performances by artists such as the Flying Karamazov Brothers and the ballet de L’Opera de Bordeaux.  For something interesting to do in the Desert, check out the McCallum schedule. 

7. Palm Springs Art Museum (Annenberg Theater)  Check this site for upcoming exhibits, performing arts theater schedule, and lectures, events & classes.  Free admission, Thursdays 4-6 p.m. during “Village Fest” (Downtown Street Fair).

8. Palm Springs Air Museum  The Palm Springs Air Museum, is a non-profit educational institution, whose mission is to exhibit, educate and eternalize the role of the World War II combat aircraft and the role the pilots and American citizens had in achieving this great victory. In addition to flying aircraft, related artifacts, artwork, and library sources are used to perpetuate American history.

9. El Paseo  Located in Palm Desert, the world famous El Paseo Shopping District features over 300 world-class shops, clothing boutiques, art galleries, jewelers, restaurants and much, more...all lined along a beautifully maintained picture-postcard floral and statue-filled mile! Known as the Rodeo Drive of the Desert, El Paseo boasts a wide spectrum of stores from Sak's 5th Avenue to individually owned boutiques. 

10. COD Street Fair  The Street Fair is located on the beautiful College of the Desert campus, surrounded by date palms and mountain vistas.  It features Open-Air $hopping! Every SAT & SUN: October­- May 7AM-2PM & June-September 7 AM Noon. Corner of Monterey & Fred Waring Dr., Palm Desert.   College of the Desert's Street Fair is a great place to find holiday presents, birthday and anniversary gifts, and one-of-a-kind party favors.
