FAQs: Job Postings

Do you conduct recruitments with final filing dates?
Yes. If a search of the database determines that additional candidates are needed, we will advertise the open position.

Recruitment efforts may still be conducted for specialized careers, difficult to recruit, select law enforcement vacancies and for other county jobs requiring examinations.

How do I know which positions are open?
Some vacant positions are advertised on our Hot Jobs list. The JobMatch system is used to fill all County vacancies, advertised or not, so you are encouraged to Submit Your Resume at any time.

What tests are required?
Written, oral or other examinations are required for select county positions. Application and testing procedures vary by position. For some tests, you must contact the recruiter directly, by way of resume, cover letter or e-mail. For walk-in testing, you must appear at the test site with the specified materials in-hand. Please completely review each job posting for instructions.

A new resume is required every time a test is taken. Oral examinations must be taken every time they are offered and written examinations every 12 months. Once a written exam is taken, the most recent score is considered valid. Exceptions are Group Counselor and Deputy Probation Officer exams. Candidates who fail these exams must wait at least six months before retesting.

How do I become aware of promotion opportunities?
Submit a resume indicating your current department and position. We will match this resume, which supersedes any resumes you may have submitted in the past. We will contact you when an appropriate position becomes available, and you can decide if you wish to be referred for an interview.

How do I get a temporary job with the county?
In addition to advertising available temporary positions, the Human Resources department maintains a pool of employees interested in temporary employment. For more information, contact the Temporary Assignment Program at 951-955-9178 or visit the Human Resources office.
Please indicate your interest in temporary employment on your resume and/or cover letter. Be sure to select 'Yes', in answer to the temporary work question.
