Classification and Compensation

Classification and Competency Staff

The Classification and Compensation Unit was established, within the Human Resources Department, in 1998 by the Board of Supervisors to establish a systematic method for maintaining the County's classification plan and salary system.

To carry out this objective, the Classification and Compensation Team was tasked with performing the following duties:

  • Conduct a five-year cyclical review of all County positions
  • Review, update or create job specifications
  • Provide technical assistance to County departments regarding classification and compensation matters
  • Review and approve/deny all classification recommendations resulting from Exception Studies. The Classification and Compensation Team will conduct Exception Studies as needed or directed.

The Class and Salary Listing, which may be viewed or downloaded from the right side of this page, lists, alphabetically, all the position classifications by title and contains standard salary ranges on all County job classes.

Riverside County's Occupational Group Study

The Human Resources Classification & Compensation Unit has now had initial meetings with all departments in the Health & Allied Occupational Group Study (Mental Health, CHA, Office on Aging, Fire, H.R. and RCRMC).  At these meetings we discussed classifications in the study, appropriate benchmarks, classes requiring Position Description Questionnaires (PDQ’s), job spec revisions and department issues.

Some departments are requesting PDQ’s on specific classifications.  If you have been advised by your management to fill out a PDQ on your position, please click on the link below.

Many thanks to all of you for your assistance, especially those employees who were requested to complete a PDQ on their positions.  As the Study progresses we will be providing you with further announcements and status updates.

Stay tuned for our next update!
