Classification and Compensation

Classification and Competency Staff

The Classification and Compensation Unit was established, within the Human Resources Department, in 1998 by the Board of Supervisors to establish a systematic method for maintaining the County's classification plan and salary system.

To carry out this objective, the Classification and Compensation Team was tasked with performing the following duties:

  • Conduct a five-year cyclical review of all County positions
  • Review, update or create job specifications
  • Provide technical assistance to County departments regarding classification and compensation matters
  • Review and approve/deny all classification recommendations resulting from Exception Studies. The Classification and Compensation Team will conduct Exception Studies as needed or directed.

The Class and Salary Listing, which may be viewed or downloaded from the right side of this page, lists, alphabetically, all the position classifications by title and contains standard salary ranges on all County job classes.

Occupational Group Study Update:  Great News!  On 12/11/2007 the Board of Supervisors approved the Form 11 for the Management/Administrative Occupational Group Study.  All recommendations become effective on 12/20/2007.  Many thanks to all of you for your assistance in bringing this study to its completion.

This concludes our first complete cyclical review of all County job classes and positions. We are now beginning the planning stages for the next scheduled Occupational Group, Health and Allied.

Stay tuned for our next update!

IT Occupational Group Study:  The IT Classification Form 11 Request was approved by the Board of Supervisors June 12, 2007.  This established a traditional nine-step salary plan and grade system for the ten IT Concepts, and replaces the County’s Policy C-28 (INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY COMPETENCY PAY).  For the actual approved Form 11, please go to:  http://www.clerkoftheboard.co.riverside.ca.us/agendas/2007/2007_06_12/03.28.pdf
